Sometimes I just start craving hamburger steaks, so since I’m going through that right now, I took the ground beef out of the freezer for tonight’s dinner. It is the ultimate comfort food, and I usually make mine with french fries to dip them in the delicious gravy.

Why Is This Recipe Different?
The problem with a lot of the recipes I’ve tried, and I’ve tried dozens of them, is that they call for mixing an egg and bread crumbs in with the ground beef. There usually would not be an issue with that, but at least one of the hamburger “steaks” always fell apart while cooking it—usually two. And this dish really doesn’t need any filler. I’d rather have more beef:)
So, instead of adding those bad actors to the mix, I just seasoned the hamburger meat, and it came out great. It even tasted better than the previous recipes that I used. And the “steaks” go well with the mouthwatering gravy that we’re going to use with mushrooms and sliced onions. Oh, and kids love this hamburger treat for dinner, too.
Hamburger steaks are similar to the old-fashioned Salisbury steak recipe. Some recipes call for a splash of Sherry in the gravy, but we will use Marsala wine, instead. Trust me, it’s going to taste good. Really good.
What Sides Go Well with Hamburger Steaks?
As I mentioned earlier, I always make hamburger steaks with seasoned french fries so that I can dip them in the gravy. But creamy mashed potatoes would go well with this dish. Scalloped potatoes would be yummy.
Also, southern green beans would be delicious. Corn maque choux is a favorite of mine, and that would work. Cornbread or french bread would be perfect for dipping in your gravy. Macaroni and cheese, spinach, a nice salad, collard greens, rice, Brussels sprouts, baked potatoes, and corn on the cob would go well with the hamburger steaks.

Let’s go!
Get your ingredients together. You’ll need one pound of ground beef, Worstechire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, minced garlic, salt and pepper, 1/2 of an onion, vegetable oil, flour, beef brother, and Marsala wine.
I take all of my seasonings and put them in a dish that I got in Puerto Rico. It’s a thing. I have to use it:)

Put the ground meat in a bowl, add the seasonings, and mix with a wooden spoon, or you can even use your hands.

Now make 8 balls from the seasoned ground meat. I made six, but I didn’t buy a full pound. Then flatten them into little patties.

Now place them in a pan with about 2 tablespoons of hot vegetable oil. You’ll let the beef patties cook for about 4 minutes per side.

Take the patties out, and set them aside. Take your sliced onions and mushrooms and saute. When the mushrooms are brownish and the onions are translucent, throw in the flour and stir. Be sure to scrape the bits of beef off the bottom of the pan. That’s flavor!

Pour in the beef broth and Marsala wine, then add the beef patties back into the pan with the gravy. Cover the pan and let the beef patties simmer in the gravy for about 15 minutes, then garnish with parsley if you like.
